Chapter 3 assignment: Introduction to Criminal Justice
You are a criminologist. You have been hired by the State of Rhode Island to investigate why violent crime has risen in our State. You must submit a written proposal/letter to the governor explaining your findings and your suggestion for solutions. If your proposals are accepted, you will be hired to the newly created position to head the Crime Prevention Bureau with an unlimited budget. Using all the theories we discussed in class, please write a well-thought out essay which include the following:
1. Briefly discuss the theories you investigated and your findings. Do you dismiss them? WHY? Do you give some merit to their findings? WHY?
2. Explain your theory (theories) as to why violent crime has escalated. Back this up with strong reasoning & evidence.
3. What do you propose are the solutions? Give thorough examples.
Your emphasis should be on #2 & #3 above. Remember, the State of RI has hired you to solve a problem. Be creative but remember, you must back up your arguments with strong evidence/reasoning to be considered for this job.
